The Ivy Spinningfields Manchester

Restaurant | Manchester | England | United Kingdom

Elegant atmosphere and culinary experience

"The Ivy Spinningfields Manchester" is a renowned restaurant in Manchester, England, UK, known for its elegant atmosphere and versatile culinary experience. It is part of the prestigious Ivy Collection, which has its roots in the famous Ivy restaurant in London's West End, known since 1917 for exquisite cuisine and top-notch service. The Manchester restaurant opened in November 2018 and is located in the heart of the modern district of Spinningfields, an area appreciated for its architecture and fine dining. It spans four floors in an impressive timber-framed building called "The Pavilion," surrounded by lush greenery, offering a unique blend of urban flair and natural elegance.

Private dining rooms for special occasions

The design of "Ivy Spinningfields" is a visual experience in itself. The façade is dominated by a vertical garden that immediately catches the eye and underscores the concept's connection to nature. Inside, guests are welcomed into various areas, each with its own character: the brasserie on the ground floor offers a relaxed, stylish environment with floral patterns and warm tones, while the second floor features "The Ivy Asia," showcasing an opulent Asian aesthetic—think green semi-precious stone floors, golden ceiling panels, and a mirrored bar. The highlight is the "Roof Garden" on the top floor, an oasis with a retractable roof, fire pits, lush plantings, and colorful fabrics, creating a magical atmosphere all year round, whether in sunshine or under the stars.

Exquisite British and Asian cuisine

Culinary-wise, the restaurant offers a wide range of options, from modern British cuisine to Asian influences, depending on the floor. The "Shepherd’s Pie" in the brasserie is a highlight—a refined interpretation of the classic, featuring tender lamb, creamy mashed potatoes, and a rich gravy that blends British tradition with elegance. Equally popular is the "Grilled Sea Bass," served with a light lemon-herb butter that perfectly highlights the fresh fish. In the "Ivy Asia" area, the "Black Cod" stands out, a tender cod in a sweet-spicy miso marinade, served with Asian accompaniments, impressing with its delicate texture. Desserts like the "Chocolate Bombe"—a melting chocolate sphere with vanilla ice cream and honeycomb—round off the experience and provide a theatrical delight that captivates guests.

The drinks menu is equally impressive. The cocktail list features creative concoctions like the "Spiced Pear Martini," which scores with spicy notes and fruity freshness, along with classics like the "Elderflower Gimlet," which captivates with its floral lightness. In "Ivy Asia," Asian-inspired cocktails take center stage, while the brasserie offers an extensive wine selection and perfectly poured cask ales. The "Roof Garden" invites guests to enjoy drinks while taking in the view of Manchester's skyline, often accompanied by live DJs or soft music that elevates the atmosphere.

Ivy Collection restaurant in Spinningfields

The restaurant also offers private dining rooms for special occasions. The "Dalton Room" features a white Carrara and gray Fior de Pesco marble floor, vintage chairs with floral fabrics, and gold leaf pendant lights that exude glamour. The "Geisha Room" on the "Ivy Asia" floor dazzles with a pink onyx bar, a golden ceiling, and Asian artworks, while the "Skylight Terrace" in the "Roof Garden" stands out with its open design and city views. These spaces are perfect for celebrations, business lunches, or intimate gatherings and are popular with guests for their exclusivity.

The story of "Ivy Spinningfields" is closely linked to the expansion of the Ivy Collection, which carries the heritage of the original London restaurant beyond the capital. It was created with the vision of providing "effortless quality and style," as described by the operators, combining the renowned hospitality of the brand with a modern, versatile approach. The restaurant is designed to be accessible, with elevators to all floors, and emphasizes sustainability, such as by using seasonal ingredients and local products where possible.

Great place. Food is a little pricey for what you get but the staff and atmosphere more than make up for it.

We’ve now visited every floor at The Ivy Spinningfields, have to say we have not had anything other than a great experience. Always a great welcome from the minute you arrive. Service friendly and efficient, Sebastiano was brilliant. Food was delivered hot and the presentation amazing. Highly recommended.

Overpriced and underwhelming. We dined in the brasserie, I had the lobster pasta and it was so overcooked I couldn’t eat it, no seasoning or sauce very disappointing. The rest of the food my table had was just average. Service was not good. Our main server was good but then after he went on his break everyone else who served us was impolite. They blamed other people for their mistakes, tried to open a screw top wine with a cork bottle opener, snatched cutlery from us and forgot items we had ordered. There was no communication or apologies. Would not recommend.

My wife and I were a walk in after attending an event nearby. First time for both of us and we very well looked after with special thanks to Andrew C and Charlotte. We had the 1917 menu which is excellent value. Chicken satay skewers and the haddock/salmon fishcake re commanded. My wife gave age creme brûlée 10/10. The decor is very impressive especially the art prints. Thanks from Marc and Joanne.

Although I normally love it here, unfortunately I have been left with no other choice than to give a bad review. I had booked a specific menu for my Son’s 18th birthday and noticed on the morning of his 18th that the menu wasn’t showing as available anymore. After 2 phone calls to the venue I was reassured that although the menu wasn’t available to book online at present, we would be able to order from it upon arrival. When we arrived, we were told we would not be able to order it at all. I just feel very let down and will now not ever trust that they will deliver on their promises. They did look into it and adjusted the bill a little, but this did not in any way reflect the cost of the menu we had booked, nor did we receive any kind of apology for the way we were treated. Disappointing and very misleading. I personally won’t be going back to somewhere that cannot keep their word. In my opinion they should have made it their business to contact me to inform me of any changes so that I could have made the decision about whether I wanted to keep my booking or not. By the time we had sat down, it was too late and I really didn’t want I let my Son down on his 18th birthday. We made the very best of a bad situation. I just don’t want other people to experience this as it was incredibly unfair.

Overall it was good, the food is good, the service was nice and the atmosphere was nice too. I didn’t like how they put the tables so close to each other, I understand it was Valentine’s Day and maybe they wanted to serve more people, but I could hear the people next to us as if we were sitting with them. Another thing, you have to go to another level to use the toilets

Really nice and cool restaurant, with elegant environment and good food. As we went for dinner on a Wednesday, we could enjoy the set menu for a really reasonable price. The only thing I did not like was that our waiter disappeared after the main course and we waited for about 15 min till another waiter asked what we wanted. So then we ordered the desserts and the bill at the same time. A pity because the crème brûlée was delicious.
